Center for Family Services is celebrating 20 years of its signature event Old Bags Luncheon®. This fundraiser continues to provide vitally needed mental health services to Palm Beach County residents who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access them. Old Bags Luncheon® was conceived by the Center’s Auxiliary Guild, and the event was based on donations of gently-used designer bags from the closets of many of Palm Beach’s most fashionable women.

While it still relies on the generosity of individual donors, the auction now also features new handbags provided by national retailers, designers, and local shops. Today our committee of 50+ women work tirelessly for months to sell tickets, gain sponsorships, and inspire their friends and favorite vendors to donate 300 handbags, upholding the standard of auctioning only authentic designer bags.

This year’s “It” bag is a Princess Diana handbag in metallic silver alligator designed by Lana Marks, handcrafted in Milan and valued at $17,000. This year’s Chairwomen are Shawn Jan, Laure Moore Tanne, and Tiffany Isaacs (Junior Chair). In addition to the auction’s excitement, this year’s featured speaker is Linda Thompson. “Linda is such a warm, Southern girl who happens to have been in a long-term relationship with Elvis Presley and later married Bruce Jenner,” said Laura Moore Tanne. “Aside from those notorious relationships, her acting and songwriting career, she is most proud of her two sons, Brody and Brandon Jenner. We are so excited to have her join us this year.”

Center for Family Services is grateful to be celebrating its 57th year. The Center offers programs to address substance abuse, sexual abuse, human trafficking, bullying, and other mental and emotional health challenges. “We are so encouraged by our community’s generosity,” said Karen Swanson, one of this year’s Honorary Chair, and the Center’s board chair. “Because of the nature of the Center’s work, I’m not sure our donors can ever really grasp the impact their contributions make for the children, adults, and families that the Center serves.” The Center is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation and is certified by Nonprofits First at the Gold level for Excellence in Nonprofit Management.
