After eight years of planning, guidance, and determination by Hope Alswang, Director of the Norton Museum of Art, the Norton Museum, founded in 1941 by Ralph and Elizabeth Norton as a Gallery and School of Art with their own art pieces, is re-opening to the public on February 9th , 2019. Another 59,000 sq. ft has been added to the Museum, there is a 210 seated auditorium, a coffee bar, full restaurant with sweeping views of the sculpture garden and outdoor exhibits and extensive classrooms, galleries, 17,000 sq. ft of event space and so much more!
The $100 million addition and renovation wraps around an almost 100-year-old Banyan tree facing Dixie Highway and in the words of main architect Norman Foster and his firm, Foster + Partners, “our intention has been to rediscover it’s essence”.
How very thrilling to have this world-class, masterpiece Museum right in the heart of Palm Beach County. Many generous and philanthropic people in our community donated vast amounts of money, effort, time and art collections to make this spacious, elegant, marvelous and historic building for all of us. “For today and for tomorrow…art endures”.
