Ever since the café — a cozy spot where business mostly revolves around takeout and delivery — reopened last month, longtime customers and newcomers are enjoying its breakfast and lunch items.
Lunch specials, such as chicken mushroom soup and grilled to-order chicken quesadilla, are selling out before closing time (3 p.m.) at the kitchen-and-counter shop, which includes a handful of places to sit and eat.
“The most popular soups are always chicken anything — chicken mushroom or chicken cilantro and other kinds — and anything vegetable-based like carrot-dill soup and even lemon-asparagus, which a lot of people try for the first time and love,” says Café Delamar manager France Charron.
In the kitchen is intuitive cook Morna Ramcharran, who for more than 20 years has been, as Charron puts it, “the heart of the food” at Café Delamar.
The food has driven the word-of-mouth staying power of the café, which is situated at the Peruvian Avenue side of Via Demario.
Sandwiches include everything from roast turkey to pressed Cuban, chicken with lemon-artichoke pesto, and BBQ pulled-pork sliders, which include three ($9.50) served with sides such as cole slaw and macaroni salad.
Soup specials, ranging from pumpkin to onion with balsamic vinegar, typically are priced at $3.95 a cup and $4.95 a bowl.
Café Delamar features salads, too.
This month, salad daily specials have included curry chicken with apple, cucumber and papaya over mixed greens with cucumber vinaigrette ($9.50), and warm goat cheese with apple, dried cranberry, toasted almonds and cranberry vinaigrette.
The café’s other items range from homemade cookies to breakfast goodies such as fruit bowls, ham-and-cheese croissant ($4.95) and bacon, egg and cheese on English muffin.
Café Delamar currently is open weekdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Starting Nov. 10, the café will be open Saturdays, too. Delivery is available to locations between the ocean and lake from Worth Avenue to Royal Palm Way.
